Fukuseke and plum blossoms

Fukusuke is a traditional male doll to greet customers at a storefront.
He actually appears somewhere on the album cover of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
In Arashiyama, western Kyoto, plum blossoms are yet to start blooming.

sweets from southern Kyusyu

karukan is confection from Kyusyu.
made from rice flour powder, sugar, and grated Japanese yam.
Water is added to the mixture, which is then steamed.
It is like an elastic white sponge.
Kaimondake , also known as 'Fuji of Satsuma' is on the package.

Since they start singing in February, they are a symbol of early spring.
having made lots of mochi-sweets that reflect each season, we have one for this season, too.
It is called ‘uguisu-mochi’, and made to resemble the shape and color of uguisu.
